Previous Projects:

-----------------

We have brought our Peddle powered art car(s) since 2001. Several of these are

in the BM website photo gallery. Our largest human powered trike has carried

sculptures on various years including Oroboros and the Snake Charmers, The

Dragonfly, and a literal interpretation of "The Floating World." Other

contraptions we have shared with the BM community include TippyTrikes -

hands-free recumbent tricycles, The Bently - an easily home-make recumbent

bike, and the solar collapsble tricycles.

Other Contributions:

-------------------

Since forming the Contraptionists, we have offered a large shady crash spot

for all commers. We have thrown several community dinners each year, offered

Snow cones other liquids to passer bys and neighbors. We have also distributed

hundreds of black dog tags with the BM logo sandblasted into them. In 2005 we

offered midnight put-put golf, naked twister, a smoothie bar, and a tall light

beacon for the neighborhood.

Comments:

--------

Thank  you so much for the wonderful placements you have given us in the past

two years! We know your job is difficult and we appreciate your work! If at

all possible, we have a STRONG preference for the neighborhood where we were

located in 2003 and 2004 (around 7:30 - 8:30 and the first or second ring road

out from the Esplanade). Let me explain whya|..

The Contraptionists grew out of a group of individual (unregistered) camps

that chose to independently camp in that area in 2001 and 2002. We formed a

close community in those years and decided to band together and form

Contraptionists in 2003. There were other camps in our neighborhood community

that did not join Contraptionists and we would like to continue to have them

as neighbors.

We very much appreciate your vote of confidence in moving us in towards Center

Camp in 2005 and we did enjoy the location.  But the majority of our camp

members would prefer to be in our original neighborhood because of the

long-term strong community we have been a part of in that neighborhood.

Therefore, we respectfully request that we be located on an outer corner in

the area of 7:30 -8:30 and at the first or second ring road out from the

Esplanade if at all possible.  Thank you for all your hard work! Zap!

Physical Description:

--------------------

We will have approximately 4400 square feet of shade structures in the camp

this year. Our camp is centered around our main chill structure where the

public can cool off during the day. Auxiliary tents for activities and public

use surround the main chill structure. A 35 foot dome will be used for yoga

classes and evening gatherings. A 20x17 foot Quonset hut structure will be

used for naked twister.

In front of our structures we will have a variety of interesting contraptions

for participants to experience including a variety of weird human powered

conveyances, climbing wall, golf course and a pedal-powered wind dancer.

Behind the public spaces and interactive elements, we will have our  bedroom

tents and vehicle parking. Generators will be sheltered for sound and placed

away from neighbors and sleeping tents.

There will be bins for recycling , burnables, and trash bins in the kitchen

area and each tent owner will be responsible for clearing the area of their

tent and helping with the removal of camp trash. We promote "leave no trace"

and teach our new members about the need to contain small debris (MOOP)

before it gets loose.

Interactivity Description:

-------------------------

Our camp will have a public chill space with Snow Cones when the day is hot

and Smoothies on selected early afternoons. We will also have afternoon games

of Twister in the buff (participants only a 18 and older) in a mist cooled

tent and Yoga classes, Peddle powered Wind Dancers, an after hours pub and

Miniature golf, a climbing wall and KittyTrim / DoggyTrim (18 and older) for

those needing a shave in a special spot. there may also be an occasional

massage in the back room if the right person is asked.

This will be our 6th year for the core group and we have grown from neighbors

to a full camp and have nearly doubled in size this year from our 2005 camp.

We hope and try to contribute to the event and give shelter and comfort to

hot and dusty travelers while expanding our participation and attractions and

art projects. In the past years we have had Snow Cones, Smoothies, KittyTrim,

DoggyTrim, Yoga, Massage, Naked Twister, Wind Dancers, Rolling Sculptures,

Other Contraptions, and Henna Tattoos.
